Davao City Gov’t Shutdown 2 Resorts for Allegedly Violating Protocols Under GCQ

The local government of Davao City has ordered a shutdown against two (2) resorts that were found violating health protocols under GCQ status.

Two resorts in Barangay Daliao, Toril District, Davao City, were closed by the Business Bureau and the Davao City Tourism Operations Office. This came after they discovered they lacked business permissions and were just accepting social events like weddings, baptisms, and birthdays.

According to the report, Davao City remains under general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions until the end of the month, prohibiting meetings and tourists. According to local official observations, no face masks were worn, and children were present at the resort’s festivities.

The resorts and participants, according to the local government, broke the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) memorandum circular number 21-28 series, which prohibits social events, as well as the Inter-Agency Task Force decision no. 130-A series of 2021. On September 12, some 20 people were seen at a birthday party hosted at an inland resort in Barangay Catalunan Pequeno by police and local government officials.

The tourist police unit, Baliok Police Station, and the Davao City Tourism Operations Office conducted a random assessment of tourism facilities in the city. Visitors who were enjoying a social event with other kids detained them, according to police.

According to authorities, the group also violated the DTI memorandum circular number 21-28 series, which forbids social events, as well as DTI guideline 21-16, which prohibits the use of swimming pools. According to Generose Tecson, chief of the Davao City tourism department, the resort was also revealed to be operating without a business permit.
