Raid in Illegal Cockfight in Mati City Resulted to the Arrest of 2 “Sabongero” Police
Authorities arrested two (2) members of the Philippine police during the raid in an illegal cockfight event held in Mati City.
An illegal cockfight arena in Barangay Dahican in Mati City, Davao Oriental has been raided by the town police after reports of an illegal event happening in the area amid the prohibition. According to the report, the cockfight event, which gathers more “sabongeros,” is currently banned by the pandemic.

Arriving at the scene, police caught up with the screaming “sabongeros” as the chickens were fighting. According to police, “the sabongeros” immediately ran away when police noticed the area, but three of them were arrested.
Three chickens, tari (knife), and P170 in cash were found in the neighborhood. Two police officers were found to be involved in the alleged unlawful cockfight, according to the police inquiry. Noel Escasinas, a civilian, was also detained. He was recognized as the brother of a barangay chairman in the region.
They were identified as Police Corporal Linwell Salvaa and Police Staff Sergeant John Declem Soriano, both of the Davao Oriental Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Intelligence Unit. The two cops are being charged with violating Presidential Decree 449, also known as the Cockfighting Law of 1974.
Meanwhile, a PNP officer is facing an administrative case after being discovered playing with his private parts in front of a saleslady at Hong 1 Mall in Barangay Tinago, Legaspi City, Albay. The police major and his assignment were no longer named by Camp Gen.Simeon Ola.
