Free Train Rides For Vaccinated Extended Until September 15
FREE TRAIN RIDES – Vaccinated individuals, especially frontline workers, can still avail of the free rides at MRT-3 and LRT-2 until September 15.
The effects of the coronavirus pandemic severely hit several industries including transportation. This led to fewer options for commuters and difficulties in travelling.
As such, the government, in a bid to address this issue and promote vaccination, created a program that incentivizes getting inoculated against COVID-19.
Recently, officials reverted Metro Manila and surrounding regions back into a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ). With this, authorized persons outside of residence (APOR) who had at least one shot of a COVID-19 vaccine can avail of the free ride.
To do so, they need only to present proof of vaccination and working status. According to an official, free rides can be availed during non-peak hours at the MRT-3 at 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Meanwhile, eligible passengers can get free rides on LRT-2 during its non peak hours from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m., 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
A certificate of employment, together with a legitimate or government-issued ID, a Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) ID, or a firm ID are all acceptable forms of identification at the MRT-3. Still, the train lines have a passenger capacity of 30%.
Furthermore, during after over a month of implementing the free ride initiative for the vaccinated, more than 1.7 million passengers had availed of the service. This equates to over 22,000 passengers on average per day.
