Teachers Group Speaks On Appeal to Gov’t Over Additional Benefits

TEACHERS GROUP – The Act Teachers Partylist is seeking additional benefits and an honorarium during the upcoming election in 2022.

The next national election in the Philippines is fast approaching. It is less than a year now before another set of public servants would be determined through Elections 2022. Undeniably, the so-called “election fever” is already starting now.

President Rodrigo Roa Duterte’s term will end in 2022. Many people are already wondering who might be the next Chief Executive of the Philippines beginning next year. There are also those who got speculations on the political plans of the current President.

Initially, Pres. Duterte said that he will retire from politics after his term ends in 2022. According to him, he wants to go home to Davao City after leaving the political arena. However, there were persistent calls for him to run for another position in the national government – particularly for the vice presidency.

Pres. Duterte was given time to reconsider his decision. Some of those who want him to run for vice president next year are his party mates in PDP-Laban. Recently, he announced that he will be one of the vice-presidential candidates next year.

For the presidency, there are also names of the possible presidential candidates next year. Meanwhile, most of those who are speculated to run for president have yet to confirm their candidacy.

Amid the talks about the election candidates, a teachers group aired the appeal for additional benefits and honorarium during the upcoming Election 2022. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the ACT Teachers Partylist issued a resolution increasing the benefits and honorarium to the following:

  • Chairpersons of Electoral Boards – Php 10,000.00
  • Members of Electoral Boards – Php 9,000.00
  • DepEd Supervisor Officials – Php 8,000.00
  • Support Staff – Php 7,000.00
  • Travel Allowance – Php 3,000.00 to Php 5,000.00
  • Food Allowance – Php 2,500.00

Teachers group ACT General Secretary Raymond Basilio also expressed their appeal for assistance from the Commission on Election (COMELEC) in case the teachers who will render services next poll will get sick like contracting COVID-19.
