Health Workers Remind Government of Other Benefits aside from SRA

Health Workers Call for Other Benefits Yet To Receive Until Now

HEALTH WORKERS – The Alliance of Health Workers (AHW) reminded the government of other benefits aside from the Special Risk Allowance (SRA).

The Philippines and several countries across the globe are fighting against the COVID-19 pandemic for more than a year now. Sadly, amid the fight, a lot of doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers lost their lives in the line of duty.

The healthcare workers are considered as the “frontliners’ in the fight thus they were prioritized in the vaccination. A huge part of their population has already been vaccinated against coronavirus. It is a whole different kind of risk that they face now everytime they go to work.

Amid all the health risks, the health workers continue to fulfill their jobs but they have a request to the government – the release of the benefits for them to help them cope in life.

The healthcare workers claimed that many of them have yet to receive the benefits due to them since last year. They even warned of possible mass resignation in case their call will fall on deaf ears.

The issue reached the Office of the President. In response to the call of the health workers, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte ordered the Department of Health (DOH) to release the benefits. He gave the health department 10 days to do it starting August 20, 2021.

DOH acted on the mandate of the President and the fund has already been released by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM). It was set for the special risk allowance of healthcare workers.

However, based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Alliance of Health Workers (AHW) reminded the government that the fund was just for the SRA and they have several other benefits they have yet to receive. Among these are the hazard pay and their meal allowance.

According to Ernesto Bulanad of the healthcare employees association, their salary is low and the benefits were supposedly set to augment their daily needs. He stressed that they are already “exhausted” and if DOH Sec. Francisco Duque can’t sleep well, they can’t even sit.
