DUTERTE – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Chinese Pres. Xi Jinping exchanged messages over the PH-China relations.

Undeniably, the relationship between the Philippines and China was boost under the administration of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte. The Chief Executive was successful at encouraging a lot of investments from the Chinese government.

However, truth be told that the PH and China ties under the current administration hooked different reactions from the people. On the part of the PH national government, it has always stressed gratitude to China for all the help extended to the country.

Recently, the Chinese nation celebrated the Centennial Founding Anniversary of the Communist Party of China. The Philippine President called to the Chinese President to greet them over the national event and they talked about the relationship between the two (2) countries.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, during their conversation over the phone, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte stressed the value of boosting the economic cooperation between the Philippines and China most especially in the field of investment, trade, and infrastructure development. The Filipino President sees it as one of the ways to recover from the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

According to the report, the 76-year-old President also expressed the gratitude of the Philippines to China for the help in dealing with the pandemic and in the completion of the “Build Build Build” projects including the following:

  • Mindanao Flood Control Projects
  • Pasig-Marikina River Bridges
  • Samal Island-Davao City Connector Project
  • Subic-Clark Railway Project

Reportedly, during his phone call to Chinese Pres. Xi Jinping, Pres. Duterte encouraged the Chinese government to increase their investment in other sectors in PH like agriculture. On the part of the Chinese President, he expressed his gratitude to the former Davao City Mayor whom he described as “a good friend and colleague”.

Xi also assured the continued support of his country to the infrastructure projects of the Philippines. He also assured the Philippine President of his country’s continued help to PH in fighting the pandemic.
