Chinese President Xi Jinping Expected To Visit PH Before End of 2018

Chinese President Xi Jinping was expected to visit the Philippines before the end of 2018, according to DFA Chief Alan Peter Cayetano.

On Tuesday (August 07, 2018), Foreign Affairs Secretary Alan Peter Cayetano said that Chinese Xi Jinping was set to visit the Philippines by year-end.

Both Philippines and Chine will still discuss whether Xi’s visit will be a state or an official one, Cayetano said.

“We are looking forward to President Xi visiting the country this year but we are still talking about specific dates. We are working as if the visit will push through. I think both sides wanted it,” DFA chief said quoted by CNN.

Xi Jinping’s upcoming visit to the Philippines by yearend will be his first under the Duterte administration.

A few months ago, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announce that the Chinese president will visit the Philippines in November after the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit in Papua New Guinea.

President Rodrigo Duterte had previously expressed his adoration towards the Chinese leader and started warmer ties with China.

However, the Duterte administration garnered criticisms over warmer ties with China for his alleged inaction over the West Philippine Sea.
