Mark’s boxing career is now being guided by the fighting senator and trained by Freddie Roach. Pacquiao said the Mark “reminds me of myself, how we both struggled to come from nothing to a world-rated contender.”
On Sunday, August 22 (Manila Time), Mark Magsayo took a huge step towards his first world featherweight title fight when he takes on Mexican boxer Julio Ceja in the Pacquiao-Ugas bout in Las Vegas, Nevada. The rising star with the nickname ‘Magnifico’ kept his unbeaten record intact with a KO win over Ceja in the title eliminator for the WBC featherweight belt.
The 26-year old boxer endured a beating from the Mexican boxer before his opening in the tenth round. He put Julio to sleep with a vicious right straight.
Mark Magsayo performed a backflip in the ring after knocking out Julio Ceja. His opponent was immediately brought to the hospital.
The Filipino boxer took to his IG account to thank God and his idol Manny Pacquiao and everyone who helped him. He said he dedicated his win to all the Pinoys. He also had a thoughtful message to Ceja.
“AT SA LAHAT NG PILIPINO AT LAHAT NG SUMUPORTA SA AMIN SA LABAN NA ITO SALAMAT PO SANA NAPASAYA NAMIN KAYO SA MGA LABAN NAMIN,” he wrote.
In the comment section, Mark gave an update on Julio’s condition after a netizen asked if his defeated opponent is okay. He said, “We checked [the] hospital [and they] said he is already responsive and will be ok.”
