Mark Magsayo: The Next Manny Pacquiao?

Filipino Boxer Mark Magsayo recently stated that he wanted to be like eight-division world boxing champion Manny Pacquiao.

“Yes I want to be like Manny Pacquiao. He’s a good influence for all boxers in the Philippines. He opened the boxing in our country. I want to follow the steps of Manny Pacquiao,” Magsayo said as quoted in Rappler.

The Featherweight contender is scheduled for a bout on Saturday, April 23 in Cebu City, Philippines. He will face Chris Avalos in a title fight, “The Time Has Come.”

Magsayo, from Dauis, Bohol really wanted to be next boxing icon. And Avalos wanted to prove that he can still put up a show and win after being lost via TKOs in two of his last three fights.

The Filipino boxer admits that the Saturday’s bout will be a big test and he also expressed his excitement to it.

Meanwhile, Avalos, having a record of 26 wins, 4 losses, including 19 knockouts is considered a more experienced boxer.

During the press conference at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu, Avalos pointed out that Mark Magsayo will be his fourth “victim”. Avalos already won over Rey Perez, Drian Francisco, and Rolly Lunas.

But, Filipino responded saying that it won’t happen again, “No more.”

The Filipino featherweight contender Mark Magsayo has a current undefeated record of 13 wins and 10 of it won via knockout.

The aspiring Filipino really hopes to win in this boxing match this Saturday in order to give him an opportunity to compete abroad especially in the United States. He eyes to fight against the unbeaten Oscar Valdez.
