A nurses’ group has expressed their dismay towards President Duterte for defending Health Secretary Francisco Duque III.

Filipino Nurses United (FNU) president Maristela Abenojar has expressed the group’s disappointment towards Duterte for defending Department of Health (DOH) and Duque over alleged deficiencies of using COVID-19 funds.

Earlier, President Duterte hits Commission on Audit for flagging the DOH for using the P67.32 billion COVID-19 funds. He also refused to accept Duque’s resignation and defended him against criticisms.

Abenojar said that a lot of health workers have not yet received their benefits including active hazard duty pay, special risk allowance, meal, accommodation, and transportation allowances while working COVID-19 frontliners.

“Nakaka-disappoint, Paulit-ulit na lang ito na nangyayari pero parang hindi na sila nagre-respond positively doon sa aming request,” Abenojar said.

The group president said that health employees have families they need to feed and support financially. Each deprived workers means that some of their family members could not get what they need.

“We have been very supportive of our fellow health workers, public and private, kaya if that is the agreement, consensus na kanilang mararating we will be there to support them,” Abenojar added.

Meanwhile, the health department claimed that the agency had released the benefits for health workers.
