Special Risk Allowance for Health Workers Filed by Makabayan Bloc

The Makabayan Bloc filed a bill seeking the special risk allowance and active hazard pay for the health workers.

The bloc filed the House Bill 9640 or the Special Risk Allowance and Active Hazard Duty Pay for the health workers who were working amid the state of public health emergency. The payment should be given on a monthly basis.

Makabayan wants the national government to provide a special risk allowance of P15, 000 and active hazard duty pay of P5, 000. The lawmakers want the bill to cover both public and private health care personnel.

The group is claiming that the current allowances and hazard pays of medical frontliners are not enough. The lawmakers said that health employees catering COVID-19 patients are entitled various allowances such as laundry allowances, substinence, and hazard pay.

The proposed bill is urging the Health Department to review the adjustment of additional allowances for health workers with the help of the Department of Labor and Employment and Department of Budget and Management.

The new measure also aims to include contractual employees, job orders, contract-of-service and human resources of health and area of assignment.
