What is the political stand of Hidilyn Diaz?
First-ever Filipino Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz was asked if she will endorse the candidacy of any politician in the 2022 elections.
Hidilyn has become a sports hero after she won the first gold medal in Olympic Games for the Philippines. After her victory, it is inevitable that the name of the Pinay weightlifter will be attached to topics about politics. It is because her name was included in the controversial matrix allegedly intended to oust President Rodrigo Duterte.
In a previous report, Hidilyn Diaz shared the qualities that she is looking for when it comes to presidential candidates. During a recent interview, based on the report in one news PH, Hidilyn said that she will not endorse any politician in the 2022 elections.
However, she is encouraging her fellow Filipinos to register and exercise their right to vote. Being an athlete and a soldier, she said that she is keeping herself away from the complicated world of politics.
Hidilyn also said that she will not indulge herself to question from politicians regarding the topic of endorsement. For her, she has to remain neutral and not take sides being a part of the Philippine Air Force.
“We’re here to represent, to serve the country tapos atleta din ako,” she said. Hidilyn Diaz also stressed that she can be friends with politicians. However, when it comes to the topic of endorsing politicians’ candidacy next year is another thing.
Meanwhile, the Pinay weightlifter shared the reason why she entered the military. She said that it is a more stable career than weightlifting because she can do the sports forever.
