Here’s what Hidilyn Diaz said about the issue on the WPS
Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz shared her thoughts on the West Philippine Sea dispute with China.
In a recent statement of President Rodrigo Duterte regarding the said issue, he said that the Philippines could not afford to go to war against China over the WPS, based on the July 26 article in Inquirer.
“Do you want war against China? I’ll tell you, even on the coast beach of Palawan, before you can take off, the missile of China would be there in about five or 10 minutes. It would be a massacre if I go and fight a war now. We are not yet a competent and able enemy of the other side,” the Chief Executive said.
In a recent Inquirer report, Hidilyn Diaz was asked about her opinion on this matter as her photo wearing a shirt with “West Philippine Sea” written on the front resurfaced on social media.
The Pinay weightlifter said that the said shirt was given to her. “Gusto kong sabihin na, ‘Atin yon eh’ pero siyempre hindi ko puwedeng pakialaman kung ano yung international dispute diyan between how many countries,” She stressed that she wants to express that the West Philippine Sea is ours and what is ours, is ours.
“After winning [the] Olympics, kaya natin. So as ordinary people na walang masyadong alam about sa international dispute or international na political thing gusto ko lang sabihin sa kanila na ito ang alam ko: na sa atin ang West Philippine Sea,” Hidilyn Diaz added.
In a previous interview, Senator Ralph Recto quipped about the victory of the Pinay weightlifter against her Chinese opponent. He said that Hidilyn has already defeated China even without going to war.
