OCTA Speaks on Metro Manila COVID-19 Status Now
METRO MANILA – The OCTA group believes that Metro Manila is currently in the “early stage” of another spike in the COVID-19 cases.
The Philippines is currently on a more intensified battle following the local transmission of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in the country. The said variant is considered as a ‘variant of concern’ after what it has done in several countries including India.
The Delta variant was first detected in India. The country had a spike in the COVID-19 cases to the point that hospitals reached their maximum capacity and ran out of supplies for the treatment. Massive deaths took place that even crematoriums were unable to handle it.
Currently, several other countries are facing a spike in their cases following the detection of the Delta variant. Indonesia is hit by the said variant of concern and many countries are implementing travel restrictions on travelers from the country.
The Philippines is one of the countries that are now imposing temporary travel bans on travelers from India, Indonesia, and several other nations in the pursuit to curb the spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant.

However, the OCTA Research Group believes that a surge is already starting in Metro Manila now. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Group believes that the spike is in its “early stage” now.
The OCTA Group stressed that the national and local government units must take measures to stop the increase of the COVID-19 cases. Based on the report, the experts believe that the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) must think about implementing stricter community quarantine measures as the current measures are supposedly not enough.
According to OCTA, the Philippines must learn from the experiences of other countries that were hit hard by a surge in the COVID-19 as they acted late. As for the Department of Health (DOH), the increase in the coronavirus cases cannot be directly attributed to the variant now but it can be a factor.
