President Duterte July 31 as Regular Holiday for Eid’l Adha

EID’L ADHA – Malacañang Palace has declared July 31, 2020 (Friday) as a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Adha.

On Thursday (July 30, 2020), Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that President Rodrigo Duterte has declared July 31, 2020 as a regular holiday based on Proclamation 985. The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) recommended the date.

Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea signed the Proclamation No. 985 with the power bestowed by President Rodrigo Duterte. The holiday declaration aims to recognize the celebration of our Muslim countrymen.

The proclamation also aims to give our Muslim countrymen the full opportunity to observe and participate in the activities or events, according to the Malacañang Palace.

Eid al-Adha is one of the two great feasts of Islam including Eid al-Fitr. The Muslim Feast of Sacrifice commemorates the sacrifice made by Abraham in obedience to the command of Allah. The holiday is being celebrated by Muslim people worldwide every year.

However, the holiday celebration might be somber due to the existing community quarantine and social distancing measures brought by the coronavirus pandemic, which continue to affect the global health and economy.
