DOH Speaks on Delta Variant w/c Is the “Variant of Concern” Now

DOH – The Department of Health spoke on the possibility of the threats of Delta Variant of COVID-19 in the Philippines.

The Philippines is one of the nations that are currently imposing travel restrictions. It is in the pursuit to prevent the entry of the Delta variant of COVID-19 in the country. It is a “variant of concern” as announced by the World Health Organization (WHO).

The said variant of coronavirus brought a devastating situation in India where it was first recorded. Hospitals were filled with patients and it can no longer attend to everyone. Massive deaths took place and mass cremation had to happen as crematoriums can no longer cater all the dead bodies.

The Delta variant is known to be more transmissible compared to other variants of COVID-19. It was detected in several other countries which are also currently banned in many nations.

Recently, the Department of Health (DOH) spoke about the Delta variant anew. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Health Department expressed that it is not impossible that the said variant would enter the Philippines but what is important is that the country is prepared.

“Kailangan ang sambayanan ay alam ang posibilidad na maaari at dadating tayo doon sa punto na papasok at papasok itong Delta variant dito sa atin, pero ang importante handa na tayo,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said.

Based on the report, disease expert Dr. Rontgene Solante expressed that border control is really needed in the pursuit to prevent the entry of the Delta variant and such restrictions must include those coming through shipping vessels. Reports stated that the variant was detected in other countries following the loosening of the travel restrictions.

The OCTA Research Group said that it is not anymore a question if the Delta variant of COVID-19 can enter the Philippines or not but the question is “when”. More updates may be posted soon.
