A prominent in the field of hosting and also one of the most respected is Boy Abunda who is dubbed as the country’s “King Of Talk”. He recently trended online following his mind-boggling question to Miss Iloilo Karen Laurrie Mendoza in the 57th Bb. Pilipinas pageant. His trending and tricky question for Binibini no. 15 as a guest panelist is: “When it is okay not to be okay and when is it not okay to be not okay?”
And the candidate’s answer is:
“You know, sometimes, it’s hard to move on especially that if we lost our loved ones, when we’re depressed when we have anxiety, but most of all, when we want to move forward in life. You know, my favorite saying in a movie Disney, ‘Inside Out,’ is embrace your sadness because in embracing your sadness you will feel happiness afterwards.”
Now, what’s his reaction to her answer? The veteran host and also the one who trained these aspiring queens for Question and Answer portion said that his question is just a catch phrase that happened to become an expression amid the pandemic. He believed that what ladies has just to do in such a tricky question is to just simplify it or “debone” it like that of a chicken.
Explaining his question, he said, “Kapag sinasabi natin na it’s okay not to be okay, what it means is I’m assuring you that what you’re going through, maaaring anxiety or sadness or loneliness, it’s okay because what you’re going through, I am going through.”
“When is not okay not okay, para sa akin, when the experience of, let’s say, the experience of loss, death, illness consumes, controls, paralyzes you that’s when not okay is not okay,” he added. Was he satisfied with the answer? He said that it was okay and she started okay, however, he heard that she wasn’t able to sustain it. She just had a confusion in processing her thoughts in the middle of answering and the host can see that she can handle it.
