List of Regions in Visayas, Mindanao That Are “High Risk” for COVID-19
REGIONS IN VISAYAS, MINDANAO – The health authorities consider four (4) areas in Visayas and Mindanao as “high risk” for COVID-19.
The Philippines is currently battling against the spread of COVID-19 and the entry of the Delta variant of the coronavirus disease. The said variant is known to be more infectious than the alpha variant.
The Delta variant was first recorded in India. It brought massive surge in the COVID-19 cases in the country crowding hospitals. A lot of deaths were recorded that mass cremations took place. Doctors in India pleaded for help as they can no longer attend to the surge of patients in the hospitals.
In the pursuit to prevent the entry of the Delta variant, several countries temporarily restrict the entry of travelers from India. One of these nations is the Philippines.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, although there are cases of the Delta variant of COVID-19 recorded in the Philippines, the authorities maintained that there is no community transmission of the said variant. However, there must be continuous efforts to fight its spread because of how fast it can be transmitted.
According to Dr. Anna Ong-Lim, what they noticed about the Delta variant is that it got milder symptoms at the onset which may not prompt an infected person that he or she is suffering from COVID-19. They eye it as one of the factors why it spreads fast.
Based on the report, with regards to the status of COVID-19 in the different areas, four regions in Visayas and Mindanao are considered “high risk”. Their daily attack rates or DAR got a high average.
The Department of Health (DOH) considers the following regions in Visayas and Mindanao as “high risk” for COVID-19:
- Region 6
- Region 8
- Region 11
- Region 12
Currently, the national government is pushing efforts to achieve population protection through the COVID-19 vaccination. Many healthcare workers, the frontliners in the fight against the pandemic, are already fully vaccinated.
