DOH Speaks on Metro Manila, Other Regions’ Status Now Over COVID-19

DOH – The Department of Health gave an update on the COVID-19 status in Metro Manila now and as well as other regions in the Philippines.

The threats of COVID-19 pandemic are still existing in the Philippines now thus everyone is reminded to observe the proper health protocols. Several regions in the country still record new cases of the disease daily.

Currently, General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with restrictions is implemented in Metro Manila and the provinces of Rizal, Cavite, Bulacan, and Laguna. Previously, these areas were placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) when the COVID-19 cases had a spike in the first quarter of 2021.

The NCR’s considered as the epicenter of the virus. Meanwhile, its cases have dropped. The Department of Health gave an update on the status of COVID-19 in Metro Manila and in other regions.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, DOH reported that Metro Manila is now a “low-risk area” over COVID-19. However, several regions in Visayas and Mindanao are considered as high risk areas.

Metro Manila is now low-risk as its daily attack rate and healthcare and intensive care unit (ICU) utilization rates decreased. In Luzon, all regions except for the Cordillera Administrative Region or CAR which plateaued have a downward trend on the cases of COVID-19.

However, in Visayas, Regions 6, 11, and 12 are now experiencing a surge in the coronavirus cases. All regions in Visayas have an upward trend while Mindanao has mixed. Based on the report, Regions 11, 12 and CARAGA have an upward trend while BARMM and Region 10 have a downward trend. Region 9 has plateaued.

Currently, the national government is procuring COVID-19 vaccines in the pursuit for a population protection against COVID-19. The vaccinations of the healthcare workers, the senior citizens, Filipinos with co-morbidities, and the essential workers have already started.
