IATF Studying Mandatory Quarantine for Inbound Filipino Travelers Vaccinated Abroad
IATF – The Inter-Agency Task Force spoke on the mandatory quarantine for vaccinated Filipinos going home to the Philippines.
The COVID-19 pandemic is still the biggest challenge in front of many nations across the globe now. This coronavirus disease has affected a lot of things including the travel, the operation of businesses, and the lifestyle of the people. It has been more than a year now since this ordeal began.
After several months of waiting for the development of COVID-19 vaccines, several countries and pharmaceutical companies came up with vaccines. The different brands include Pfizer, Moderna, Sinovac, Sputnik V, and AstraZeneca. Countries across the globe continue to procure vaccines in the pursuit to achieve the herd immunity.
In the Philippines, a huge part of the healthcare workers have already been vaccinated. They are the top priority and the vaccinations of the individuals above 60 years old and those who have co-morbidities have also started.

Vaccinations abroad are also ongoing and some Filipinos were vaccinated in other countries. In the implementation of the protocols, a returning Filipino must undergo a mandatory quarantine but there are differences.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, inbound travelers who have been vaccinated in the Philippines are required to undergo a 7-day facility-based quarantine. For returning Filipinos who were vaccinated abroad, they have to undergo a 10-day facility-based quarantine.
According to the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) against COVID-19, they are still studying the possibility of reducing the number of days of the mandatory facility-based quarantine for inbound Filipino travelers who were vaccinated abroad. PH vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. expressed that it must really be assured that the travelers were vaccinated.
“So one ang ano namin na magvavalidate is yung manning agency and employers, second yung ating Philippine embassy staffs… Third is yung DOLE… will require every OFW na mag vaccinate immediately before traveling,” Galvez said.
With regards to the swab test requirement for travelers arriving in the Philippines, the Department of Health (DOH) is studying the possibility of not requiring fully-vaccinated travelers for a swab test. More updates may be posted soon.
