Erik Matti Confirms Isko Moreno Will Play Role of Andres Bonifacio In An Upcoming Historical Film About The Hero

ANDRES BONIFACIO – Manila Mayor Isko Moreno will play the role of Filipino hero Andres Bonifacio in the upcoming biopic helmed by Erik Matti.

Francisco “Isko” Moreno Domagoso is a former actor who later pursued a career in politics. He is currently the mayor of Manila, the capital of the Philippines.

 The 46-year-old politician is admired by lots of Filipinos for his passion for serving his community. Isko is definitely a good role model for mayors in the Philippines.

Based on a report from CNN, Award-winning director Erik Matti revealed that Isko Moreno will play the role of Andres Bonifacio in a legacy film project produced under Regal Entertainment. He said, “We’ve decided upon so many considerations…we decided to get Yorme Isko Moreno as our Bonifacio for this movie.”

The filmmaker said actor-turned-politician is perfect for the role because “aside from their physical resemblance, both were theater actors who hailed from Tondo, Manila. And just like Moreno, the hero’s father, Santiago Bonifacio, was a former Manila mayor.”

Erik Matti was asked if the Andres Bonifacio biopic will be used as a campaign vehicle in case Yorme runs for higher office in the upcoming election. He said, “From our end, we just want to do a movie and if he runs for higher office I’m there for him.”

According to the report, Erik Matti’s new movie tentatively entitled “May pag-asa,” the pen name used by the Filipino hero. He also noted that the clash during the revolution is very much relevant today.

“We wanted to tell a story that could be relevant for 2021…Upon looking at it, I think the divisiveness that we are having right now in the country is really what made us think that the Bonifacio movie which also was rife with divisiveness during that time they wanted to win over the Spaniards, I think those issues during that time make the whole film relevant to us nowadays,” the director said.

Matti shared that they will start filming the biopic 3 to 4 weeks from now.
