Advisory of COMELEC on OFW Voters for Elections 2022

COMELEC – The Commission on Elections spoke on the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) who want to vote this elections 2022.

The Filipinos are less than a year away now from exercising their right to suffrage once again. Many are already contemplating on who they will support in the upcoming 2022 Elections. Although only a few candidates have assured that they’re surely running in the next political bid, the citizens have these people they look forward to seeing in the race.

The election fever can already be felt in the Philippines. Surveys got the names of possible presidential candidates in the next election. The results got Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as one of the possible candidates in the next bid for the highest post in the government.

The president daughter has previously stressed that she has no intention to run for president next year. But, recently, several events ignited the speculations that she might have a change of mind regarding the matter.

With regards to the voting process, changes are expected considering that the COVID-19 pandemic may not be over by the time that the Elections 2022 will be held. Meanwhile, even Filipinos who are not in the Philippines by that time may still exercise their right to vote.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, there is a total of 1,423,941 registered Filipino overseas voters now. The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) expects that a higher number of OFWs will vote in Elections 2022 compared to the previous political bid.

There is a total of 94 Philippine foreign service posts where OFWs can vote during the election. Based on the report, 55 of these consider mail voting, 27 support the personal voting, and 12 consider mixed. COMELEC spokesperson James Jimenez expressed that the en banc will make a decision regarding the mode of voting in the proper time.

The deadline of registration for overseas absentee voting is until September 30, 2021. This includes the transfer of registration for OFWs who will be moving to another country, reactivation, and the correction of entries. If you are currently in abroad, you may go to the nearest embassy or consul. If you are in the Philippines, you may proceed to the COMELEC Office for Overseas Voting in Intramuros or in any of the following:

  • MARINA (Maritime Industry Authority)
  • DFA Consular Office West, NCR, SM City Manila
  • DFA Aseana, Paranaque City
  • DFA Robinsons Galleria, Ortigas Avenue
  • Philippine Overseas Employment, Mandaluyong City
