Netizens talked about this gimmick for the ‘Trese’ series of Liza Soberano
Liza dubbed the said Netflix original in Tagalog while it was Fil-Am actress Shay Mitchell who did the English version.
After the streaming service released the trailer, the billboards were photographed with red markings over them and some were torn.
Based on the article in The Philippine Star, hours after this matter went viral, Netflix Philippines shared a post saying that they already knew who are behind this “vandalism”.
The post has this caption: “Looks like we found the culprits…but don’t be afraid. Trese’s coming to let them know they can’t mess with our city. Until then, careful where you tread and use #TabiTabiPo to keep the monsters at bay.”
This included a grainy video showing a “winged creature” that appeared to be a giant bat. Then, there were also masked creatures that were seen climbing over the billboard.
Because of this netizens praised how the people behind the production have thought about this kind of promotion for the series. Here are some of the comments.
“Kudos to Marketing & Creative Team of this project! ANG GAGALING NYO!!”
“THE PROMO OMG LUV THE EFFORT!”
“Dont be shy netflix ph put some billboards on (sic) visayas + mindanao too.”
Based on the article, Jay Oliva, the director of the series, admitted that it was all part of the gimmick to promote Liza Soberano’s project.
“A couple of months ago, they showed us the plans and it was amazing. For me, I mean, I’ve been tweeting it and sharing some stuff. I am just playing dumb, you know, like ‘OMG how could they do this to the billboards,” the director shared.
