People w/ COVID-19 Who Are Not Careful Not To Infect Others May Be Charged?

People w/ COVID-19 But Still Go Out May Face Charges

PEOPLE W/ COVID-19 – Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte agreed that people who have COVID-19 but are not careful not to infect others may be charged.

The spread of the COVID-19 disease is undeniably a tough one to stop. It has been a year now since this coronavirus disease started infecting a lot of people across the globe – including the people in the Philippines.

In PH, community quarantine measures are still observed as the fight against the spread of the disease continues. The recent spike in the country’s total cases even prompted stricter community quarantine measures.

Currently, most parts of the country are under Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ), the most relaxed measure among the four (4) measures. Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite are under GCQ with heightened measures.

The national government continues to remind the public to limit going out unless for very essential reasons. Leisure traveling and many other activities easily done in a normal setting are prohibited now in the efforts to arrest the spread of coronavirus.

People who are sick with COVID-19, mostly the asymptomatic cases, must abide by the protocol which is to undergo isolation. It is also for safety of the people around to prevent them from getting infected with the virus.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte agreed with chief legal counsel Salvador Panelo that people with COVID-19 but are not careful not to infect others may be charged.

“Pero kung alam niya, at pumunta sa isang lugar at may sakit siya ng coronavirus, at namatay, ay iyan po ay talagang sadyang pagpatay iyan,” Panelo expressed.

According to the President, a person with COVID-19 may really be responsible if he knows that he is sick and he continues to go around “nonchalant” about it. Reportedly, his chief legal counsel further expressed that those who don’t abide by the health protocols may also be charged.

Panelo expressed that those who do not follow the health protocols may face charges for resistance or disobedience to authorities and violation of the Republic Act No. 11332 o ang Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act.
