Being in the industry for a long time, Karen Davila revealed the reason why she almost gave up news anchoring.
KAREN DAVILA – This is what happened in the past the reason why veteran broadcaster Karen Davila almost quit in her profession before.
For 27 years, veteran and articulate broadcaster Karen Davila revealed a phase where she almost decided to quit being a broadcaster. She was accordingly known in the field as the “babaeng walang tulog” and for years of not literally having a quality rest and sleep has taken a toll on her health.
There was accordingly a phase in her life where she worked full time but in different programs where she reached a point of having just four hours of sleep. It was that time when she was doing Headstart, My Puhunan, a radio program, and Bandila. She said, “It was 10 years of kayod na non-stop. And nagka-hyperthyroidism ako when I was in late 20s.”
Such condition where radioactive iodine is the treatment has had a “contributory factor” which is the hoarseness of the voice in times of being too tired. Davila added that she got depressed during those times. She expressed, “I really got depressed, I wanted to quit. I was so scared going to go to work.”
She came to a phase asking God what she will do and praying intensely to heal her if it’s His will for her to stay in the field. What she just wanted is to be healed and to be able to do her job well. She also settled in changing her lifestyle and her eating habit because there are foods that she is not allowed to eat.
The pandemic came and her recovery happened. She got the right amount of sleep needed for an adult and that was when she realized that she has abused herself in the past years. The pandemic has taught her to balance things as a career woman with a family.
