Spox Harry Roque Claim that “Bugok” Policemen are Only Few in PNP Ranks

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque claimed that policemen who are “bugok” in the ranks of Philippine National Police (PNP) are only few.

Not all of the country’s cops are “bugok” or “stupid.” After video footage of a lady being shot in the neck by an intoxicated police officer became viral online, Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque highlighted this.

The Philippine National Police (PNP), according to Sec. Roque is still a professional organization. He went on to say that the police shooting was an “isolated incident.”

“Definitely, that is not the rule. That is the exception to the rule. Wala po tayong magagawa. Kahit anong organization mayroong paisa-isang mga bugok at ito pong pangyayaring ito iyong naunang event…ito po iyong mga bugok,” he said.

“Pero … please, we have hundreds of thousands in the ranks of our policemen and we hear of one or two cases of this nature. Hindi po totoo na malawakang maraming bugok sa kapulisan,” he added.

Sec. Roque stated that the police are professionals who have been trained as law enforcement officers, but they must also follow the law. He denied that the police department has a large number of bad policemen. They are professional because it has been established in their thoughts since day one of their training that as law enforcement officers, they must uphold the law, and we appreciate the professionalism of our officers.

“We have respect for the professionalism of our policemen. And yes, I confirm these are exceptions to the rule that our policemen are by and large professionals,” he said.

According to the report, 52-year-old woman Lilybeth Valdez died on Monday at Sitio Ruby, Barangay Greater Fairview, Quezon City, after being shot by a drunk police officer. The Police Security and Protection Group’s Police Master Sgt. Hensie Zinampan was identified by police.

In December 2020, at the height of the issue of Jonel Nuezca’s shooting of the Gregorio family, the suspect posted on Facebook that not all police officers are bad and that he is one of the good police officers.
