PH Government Speaks on Target Herd Immunity in NCR Plus
PH GOVERNMENT – The Philippine national government revealed its target date in achieving the herd immunity in NCR Plus areas.
There are still new cases of COVID-19 in the Philippines daily thus the authorities continue to remind everyone to practice the proper health protocols and to stay at home as much as possible.
In April, the Department of Health (DOH) recorded a spike in the cases of coronavirus in the country. The total cases recorded in the country now has surpassed one (1) million – it followed the detection of new variants of the disease in different countries across the globe.
To arrest or slow down the spread of the disease, the whole Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal were previously put under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) again for weeks. Currently, these areas which are tagged as the NCR Plus are under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) with heightened measures.
Currently, the vaccination against COVID-19 is ongoing while the whole country remains under community quarantine measures. The vaccination of the healthcare workers, the senior citizens, those individuals with comorbidities, and the essential workers have already started.
The PH government targets to achieve the herd immunity from COVID-19 this year. However, as for the Department of Health (DOH), it may not happen citing the delays in the delivery of the vaccines.

According to presidential spokesman Harry Roque, the critics seems to be wanting the government to fail in the pursuit stressing that it is slow. Meanwhile, he assured that President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is determined to achieve the population protection.
The healthcare workers have the freedom to choose the COVID-19 vaccine they prefer while the other individuals in the priority ladder like the senior citizens and those with co-morbidities may choose whether or not to receive the available vaccine.
