Malacañang Speaks on COVID-19 Vaccination Priority List

Malacañang spoke on what will happen to those who are on the priority list but refused to receive the available COVID-19 vaccine.

The Philippines is one of the countries that are currently on the vaccination process against COVID-19. More than one (1) million cases of the coronavirus disease were recorded in the country as of this writing and situations are under a “new normal” setting.

The country is in the pursuit of achieving the herd immunity against COVID-19. The national government targets to achieve it this year. Different brands of vaccines arrived in the country – Pfizer, Sinovac, and AstraZeneca.

The top priority in the COVID-19 vaccination are the healthcare workers who are the frontliners in the fight against the spread of coronavirus. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the health workers have the liberty to get the COVID-19 vaccine they prefer.

The next in line in the vaccination ladder are the senior citizens and those individuals who have comorbidities. Based on the report, Malacañang spokesman Harry Roque said that the elderly and those who have comorbidities have the freedom to decide on whether or not they will use the available COVID-19 vaccine.

However, in case a senior citizen or an individual with comorbidity will decide not to avail the available COVID-19 vaccine, the person needs to “be back to the end of the line”. He stressed that it is “only fair”.

The statement from the spokesman of Malacañang came following the result of a Social Weather Stations survey showing that 39% of the respondents of the survey prefers Sinovac, a COVID-19 vaccine from Beijing, and 32% prefers Pfizer by a United States-based company.

After those individuals with comorbidities, the next in the priority list are the essential workers followed by the poor Filipinos. The national government is planning to start the vaccination by June.
