The COVID-19 pandemic has affected a lot including the travels across the globe. Amid the increasing cases of coronavirus in the different nations, several countries impose travel restrictions in the pursuit to arrest the spread of the disease.

In fact, there were times when nations locked their boarders amid the fight against the pandemic. Truths be told that going home to one’s country now is not as easy as before but everyone must heed the call to fight the pandemic. There are health protocols that need to be followed.

In the Philippines, returning Filipinos and the overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) are required to undergo a 14-day quarantine and COVID-19 testing. The swab test is done on the 7th day since the arrival in Manila.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Department of Tourism (DOT) is proposing the shortening of the quarantine period for the OFWs and the returning Pinoys. Instead of 10 days in a quarantine facility and four (4) home quarantine days after it, the Tourism Department is proposing to shorten it for the fully-vaccinated OFWs and balikbayans.

DOT cited Thailand only requires 7 days of quarantine for the fully-vaccinated travelers. Based on the report, Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat said that the proposal is in line with the pursuit of encouraging Filipinos to go home.

The Tourism Department will be presenting its proposal to other agencies today including the Department of Health (DOH), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), and the COVID-19 task force. Reportedly, the proposal is not limited in terms of the COVID-19 vaccine brand but it may be talked about during the meeting today.
