CDC Warns Public Against Kissing & Snuggling of Backyard Poultry

CDC Advises American Citizens to Avoid Kissing & Snuggling of Backyard Poultry Due to Salmonella

The US Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has warned the public against kissing and snuggling of backyard poultry due to salmonella.

CDC advised the American citizens to avoid the kissing and snuggling of hen and duck after the Salmonella infection outbreak hits the area. Around 163 people have been affected by the outbreak and 34 individuals have been hospitalized since February.

The agency said that people should avoid doing it to backyard poultry although they look clean and healthy. The group added that chicken and ducks could carry Salmonella bacteria. People should wash their hands after touching poultries.

“Don’t kiss or snuggle backyard poultry, and don’t eat or drink around them,” CDC said.

The group advised the public to prevent young children (five years old and below) from playing chicks and ducks. Poultry owners were also instructed to maintain the cleanliness inside their home.

CDC explained that the people could get the Salmonella infection through the poultry’s contaminated meat, milk, egg, and fresh produce placed in contaminated water.

Infected individuals could experience signs and symptoms such as fever, blood during stool, cramps and vomiting. Millions have suffered from the infection but it does not bring danger to the life of the victims.
