Phivolcs Exposes Real Cause of Taal Volcano’s Increased Unrest

Phivolcs Releases Latest Update Regarding Taal Volcano

The state seismology agency Phivolcs revealed the real cause of Taal Volcano’s increased level of unrest over the past few days.

On Wednesday (May 19, 2021), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology released the latest update regarding Taal Volcano. The agency has also exposed the cause of increase irregularities on the island.

Phovolcs said that the Taal Volcano emits steam-laden plumes reaching 300 meters following the upwelling of hot volcanic fluids in the main crater’s lake last Tuesday (May 18). Taal remains under alert level 2 that could cause probable magmatic activity.

The volcanology agency officer-in-charge Renato Solidum revealed that the magma in the shallow parts of Taal is the major cause of elevated unrest on the island but it is unlikely to result to an eruption.

The seismology bureau continue to monitor the volcano’s condition and prohibited the public to enter the volcano island due to expected magmatic eruption.
