After appearing on television shows hosted by Jess Quintero, the comedian rose to fame about 20 years ago. His most notable appearance was on the Spanish late-night show Ratones Coloraos, where he was interviewed by the host about his ill-fated stint as a kitchen assistant.
Based on the article, Borja told Quintero in the clip that he once left 20 paella dishes in the sea overnight to clean them. However, when he returns the next morning, he discovers all but one had been washed away by the tide.
Borja’s trademark wheezing and almost-toothless grin stole the show, leaving him and the host slapping the desk in fits of uncontrollable laughter. His smiling face is also widely used online, including as an emoticon on the game streaming site Twitch. Social media users and media figures in Spain have paid tribute.
