Wowowin Contest Alarms Privacy Violations for Asking Personal Details Online
Netizens as well as experts were alarmed against the contest made by GMA 7’s Wowowin show of Willie Revillame over alleged privacy violations.
Because of the prizes on offer, the afternoon Kapuso game show Wowowin: Tutok to Win is popular among Filipinos. However, due to the pandemic, audiences are now anticipating the call of host Willie Revillame and online raffles.
The popular game show launched a new segment “Mukhang Panalo” where the audience will post the selfie of themselves and personal details in the Wowowin official Facebook page comment section. However, because of the show’s million followers and viewers, those who wanted to win ten thousand pesos flocked to the page.

As a result, some legal and information technology experts believe that the contest for Wowowin may have a negative effect on people. To be eligible for the P10,000 prize, you must post a selfie with your full name, address, and even a contact number.
With that, the dangers of revealing personal information online have become a hot topic on the internet, particularly among those with legal and IT backgrounds. This, according to netizens, is a breach of the data protection act and can be used to perpetrate a variety of scams and fraud.
All of the pertinent details that might be useful in any strange circumstances is readily available in the comment section. Some internet users are concerned that the personal information available will be used in the forthcoming elections, possibly leading to the use of other people’s identities.
Others, on the other hand, are concerned that many adults are engaging and watching Wowowin more quickly in order to avoid being victims of scams. Wowowin and GMA Network have yet to issue an official announcement, and they are still accepting entries for the said contest as of this writing.
