According to Ermita Police Chief Lieutenant Colonel Evangeline Cayaban, they will knock into you and scare their victims, then follow you around before you apologize. If the victim’s identity as a seaman has been established, the suspects will scare him before he reveals his ring, which will be replaced with fakes.

One of the suspects, Reynaldo Aguilar, said he sold the seized rings to Recto for P7,000. He said that he did it out of desperation. A former security guard who reportedly acted as a lookout during the operation was also detained by Aguilar.

He is said to be paying somewhere between P500 and P1,000. He realized that he didn’t like what they were doing and that he was just doing it because he was compelled to. Three people, one of whom was a 2018 survivor, allegedly approached the police.

People who have been harmed by the two perpetrators were welcomed by Cayaban. They aren’t the only ones doing this work in Manila, according to Aguilar. A robbery charge has been filed against him and his accomplice.
