Mother of Singer Geneva Cruz Dies of COVID-19
GENEVA CRUZ – The singer shared her feelings upon seeing the urn of her mother, Marilyn Cruz, who died of COVID-19.
For several days now, Philippines is recording high numbers of new COVID-19 cases in the country daily. It caused a spike in the cases of the disease in the country amid the ongoing fight against its spread. It has been a year now since the first case of the disease was recorded.
In fact, the whole National Capital Region (NCR) was previously placed under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) again following the recent spike in the COVID-19 cases. It is the strictest among the quarantine measures.
The provinces of Laguna, Cavite, Rizal, and Bulacan were also placed under ECQ for several days. Called as the NCR Plus, the aforementioned areas are currently under Modified ECQ.

Many people died of COVID-19. One of them is Marilyn Mendoza Cruz, the mother of singer Geneva Cruz. Some family members of the singer including her sister and mother contracted the disease.
Marilyn has existing health conditions already when she was infected by COVID-19. She was brought to the hospital and there were days when she felt better. However, the major twist took place and she succumbed to the disease.
As part of the protocols, deceased COVID-19 patients are cremated. Singer Geneva Cruz and her siblings recently got the urn of their mother to bring it home. In an Instagram post, she poured her feelings upon seeing her mom’s urn.
According to Geneva, when they saw the urn of their mother, that was when reality “that she is really gone” hit them. She stressed that COVID-19 is not a joke and it can really take a life. She shared that during the 8-day confinement of their mother in the hospital, she had a very unstable condition.
There were days when Geneva’s mom felt fine but there were also days when she’s struggling. Their only contact was through FaceTime and telephone calls. The singer paid tribute to her late mother citing that she was both mom and dad when they were growing up as their father was not with them most of the time.
According to her, her mother can do everything even the works of the male at home like plumbing and changing tires. The singer and her family was not able to hold a proper memorial service for her mother yet considering the risk that COVID-19 is posting now.
“Our lives will never be the same again. Love and understand your mothers and focus on their goodness instead of their shortcomings because one day, when she’s gone, you would want to give all you have to have another kiss or hug from her,” Geneva stated.
