San Fernando Imposes Lockdown Following Spike Of Coronavirus Infections
SAN FERNANDO IMPOSES LOCKDOWN – For two days straight, local officials of Pampanga record over 200 new coronavirus cases.
Furthermore, most of the cases come from its capital, San Fernando. As such, officials imposed a stricter community quarantine in the area.
According to an article from Inquirer, Pampanga observes a modified general community quarantine (MGCQ). Moreover, new cases rose to 298 on April 11 and 207 the following day.

However, according to Dr. Zenon Ponce, the provincial health officer, the spike in cases were due to backlogs. With the new cases, the total number of COVID-19 infections in the province has reached 11,786.
Of this number, 2,592 are considered as active cases. Meanwhile, the city recorded 8,635 recoveries and 559 deaths due to the virus.
Because of this, San Fernando Mayor Edwin Santiago issued Executive Order 21. As per the article, residents can expect:
- home quarantines
- closed public markets after the 5:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. business hours.
- 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. curfew
- banned gatherings
- prohibited dine-ins
- permitted only essential stores
Additionally, it also required non-residents to present swab tests done 72 hours before entering the capital. Aside from this, Mayor Santiago also imposed a new scheme dubbed as “Kapitbahay Ko, Bantay Ko”.
Currently, Manila and its four nearby provinces were placed under the NCR Plus bubble. The government also lowered the lockdown levels from an ECQ to an MECQ until the end of the month.
