General Trias Police Chief Relieved From Post After the Death of Curfew Violator
The police chief of General Trias City in Cavite was relieved from post after the death of a man who violated the curfew.
Based on the statement of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Cavite Police Provincial Office (PPO) has relieved the chief of General Trias after two alleged quarantine violators give a sworn statement regarding the controversial intense exercise that lead to the death of a curfew violator.
“Cavite PPO has relieved the COP of Gen Trias after finding out that 2 of the quarantine violators executed sworn affidavits that they indeed were made to do physical exercises (knee bender) by two GT policemen earlier relieved pending the investigation,” the PNP said.

It will be recalled that Police Lieutenant Colonel Marlo Solero denied excessive punishment of curfew violators through physical exercise. The PNP based on the sworn statements of two other violators that they were subjected to knee bender (pumping) exercises by the police as punishment.
According to the family of Mr. Darren Peñaredondo, he was apprehended after going out on April 1 to buy water during the curfew hours in Cavite, one of the provinces under enhanced community quarantine due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.
They said Peñaredondo and other quarantine violators were asked to do 100 “pumping exercises” similar to push-ups or squats. But because they failed to do it simultaneously, they ended up doing a total of 300 pumping exercises.
