Former IATF Adviser Dr. Tony Leachon Speaks About COVID-19 Pandemic in PH

Former IATF adviser Dr. Tony Leachon cited ten (10) suggestions to curb the spread of COVID-19 in the Philippines that had a recent spike of coronavirus disease.

The COVID-19 pandemic is still existing in PH and that is what the people must not forget. This disease has shaken several healthcare systems across the globe and many hospitals in PH are reaching their full capacity again.

More than a week ago, PH started recording again high cases of COVID-19 daily – even higher compared to last year’s records when the pandemic began. It undeniably alarmed the officials and as well as the public.

The PH government placed the entire National Capital Region (NCR) under Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). Four provinces such as Rizal, Cavite, Bulacan, and Laguna are also under ECQ now.

It’s more than a year now since the pandemic began. Everyone wants this ordeal to be over soon but the recent spike in the cases of COVID-19 in PH is challenging the hope of the people.

Currently, the vaccination drive is ongoing and the top priorities include the healthcare workers, the senior citizens, and those people who are immuno-compromised. It is undeniably like a race as the cases of the disease are also increasing big daily.

Recently, former IATF adviser Dr. Tony Leachon cited ten (10) ways that can help curb the spread of COVID-19 in the Philippines. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, he reiterated the increase in mass testing, contact tracing, and the isolation, and quarantine facilities.

According to Dr. Leachon, 26,000 tests daily is not enough and it must be increased to 100,000 per day. Based on the report, here are the other ways cited by the former IATF adviser in curbing the spread of COVID-19 in the Philippines:

  • Construction of field or satellite clines, or use of empty buildings to decongest hospitals
  • Establish command center for COVID-19 and non-COVID-10 cases
  • Strategic, agile, and transparent communication plan
  • Fast rollout of vaccination program in Metro Manila and other COVID-19 hotspots
  • Enhancement of data management and science-based projections
  • Intensify capacity on telemedicine and create protocols for mild COVID-19 patients
  • Stockpile coronavirus treatment for home care and hospital patients

According to Dr. Leachon, there are several plans and proposals from the government officials and the netizens but it needs “excellence” in doing it. He believes that PH is “back to square one worst than last year”.
