Good Friday: The Significance of the Good Friday

Importance of Good Friday Observance for Christians

GOOD FRIDAY – Christians commemorate the sufferings and death of the Lord Jesus Christ on Good Friday, one of the days within the Holy Week.

One of the religious events widely observed across the globe is the Holy Week. Most Christians really observe Lent which includes the Holy Thursday and the Good Friday. The latter marks the end of Lent or the 40-day fasting period for the Christians.

It falls on the Friday before the Easter Sunday or the resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Easter is held on the first Sunday after Paschal Full Moon. For this year, today, Christians commemorate the sufferings and death of the Lord Jesus Christ on the Cross.

Good Friday

The significance of the Good Friday is the commemoration of the sufferings and death of Jesus Christ starting His arrest by the soldiers after being betrayed by Judah. To save mankind from sins, the Son of God wore a crown of thorns and walked up to Mount Calvary carrying a heavy cross.

He was mocked, spit on, and called to die on the Cross. All of it were endured by the Son of God to fulfill the great mission of saving the people. He gave His life and died on the Cross so humanity can have a fresh start.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic happened, there were re-enactments of the passion of Christ held in the different areas in the country. There are people who volunteer themselves as a sacrifice and go through some of the suffering the Son of God went through to save the people from sins.

Due to the pandemic now, several Church activities are cancelled. Instead, people stay at home and are encouraged to contemplate and reflect on the sufferings that Jesus went through for His and God’s love for the people.
