BuCor Confirms Former Mayor Antonio Sanchez of Calauan, Laguna Died

Former Mayor Antonio Sanchez of Calauan, Laguna who’s jailed in the National Bibilid Prison died, the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) confirmed.

One of the sensational issues involving a politician was the death of Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez. The two (2) deceased were students of the University of the Philippines, Los Baños in 1993.

The name of then Calauan, Laguna Mayor Antonio Sanchez was dragged as the mastermind over the deaths of the two (2) U.P. students. Cases were filed against the then Mayor and as well as his men who were accused of playing roles in the incidents that led to the death of the students.

In 1995, former Mayor Antonio Sanchez was charged guilty over the death of Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez. The decision was penned by Pasig Judge Harriet Demetriou.

Sanchez was charged to serve seven counts of reclusion perpetua which equates to 40 years of imprisonment for every count. The former Calauan Mayor keep his stand that he is innocent over the death of Sarmenta and Gomez.

Previously, there were reports of the possible early release of Sanchez because of his good conduct inside the jail. But the said possible deduction of the sentence to him met criticisms.

Many people were against the release of the former Calauan Mayor. The public outraged has prompted the authorities to not push through.

Recently, an update about former Mayor Antonio Sanchez of Calauan, Laguna crossed the surface. Based on a report on GMA News, the former Mayor died inside the jail.

The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) confirmed the death of former Mayor Sanchez. He was brought to the National Bilibid Prison hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

Reportedly, the body of Sanchez is subject for autopsy. More updates may be posted soon.
