DOH Secretary Duque Speaks About Sinovac Vaccine 2nd Dose
DUQUE – Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III spoke about the 2nd dose for the recipients of the Sinovac vaccine.
After several months of waiting for the development of vaccines against COVID-19, several countries and territories now are administering the vaccines to their people. One of these is the Philippines.
PH is one of the nations greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The entire country is still under community quarantine measures now as the fight against the pandemic is not yet over. The pandemic has greatly affected the economy and many businesses closed.
Also, the education system is affected. Instead of starting the school year in June, it was moved to October and instead of having face-to-face classes, schools adapted the blended learning. Students are educated through the use of modules and online classes.
Undeniably, while many await the development of the COVID-19 vaccines, there are also people who are hesitant about getting vaccinated. They worry about the possible side effects. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte previously encouraged the people to trust the people behind the vaccines.

In PH, the health workers and the senior citizens are the top priority in the giving of the COVID-19 vaccines. Pres Duterte also wants the poor Filipinos to be vaccinated after the health workers and the senior citizens and place the government people among the last in the line.
Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines were administered. There will be a 2nd dose of each vaccines but the gap between the 1st dose and the 2nd dose may differ.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque III said that the 2nd dose for the recipients of the Sinovac vaccine will be given after 28 days. According to him, the vaccines have already been reserved for the 2nd dose of those who already received it.
With regards to the recipients of the AstraZeneca vaccine, they will receive their 2nd dose after 12 weeks or 3 months. Thus, the current AstraZeneca vaccines PH has will be administered. Furthermore, Duque stressed that it has shorter shelf life thus cannot be stored long.
