Two Bird Hunters Arrested In Apalit, Pampanga For Killing Migratory Birds

APALIT – Two bird hunters were recently arrested in Apalit town, Pampanga on Sunday, March 7, for killing migratory birds.

Local police investigator Master Sgt. Eduardo Gonzales said that the two hunters, identified as Fidel Aguilar, aged 59, and Ferdinand Tongol, aged 46, were nabbed for the illegal hunting and killing of four wandering whistling ducks or batiki (Scientific name: Dendrocygna arcuata) in Sitio Tagulod, Barangay Sampaloc, according to a report from Inquirer.

The suspects, who are residents of the nearby town of San Simon, Pampanga, were arrested after the cops received a tip from concerned citizens, Department of Environment and Natural Resources in Region III.

The Wildlife Resources Conservation and Protection Act of 2001 or Republic Act No. 9147 says that the suspects would face jail time of as long as a year and a fine of P100,000.

The Candaba police and DENR agents nabbed six men for shooting and killing two Great Egrets (Scientific name: Ardea alba).

Based on the report, the police and DENR personnel arrested four suspects for selling a large bayawak (Scientific name: Varanus marmoratus) in the municipality of Guagua.
