Pope Francis to Join Filipinos During the 500th Anniversary Celebration of Christianity in the Country

Pope Francis would join the celebration of 500th anniversary of Christianity in the Philippines together with the Pinoy community in Vatican.

The Santo Papa would lead the mass at St. Peter’s Basilica on March 14, 2021 marking the 500 years of Christianity in the country, according to the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines.

Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle would also join the celebration as he has been assigned as the prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. The Church would set limit with the number of devotees who will attend the event.

The religious officials would strictly implement the quarantine guidelines and safety protocols during the celebration to prevent the possible transmission and spread of the coronavirus disease.

The 84-year-old religious official also issued a decree bestowing a plenary indulgence for the Filipino devotees who will join the celebration. Believers who could not attend the mass could watch it live on their mobile devices.

Most diocese in the Philippines would also launch a commemoration from April 4, 2021.

It can be remembered that Ferdinand Magellan arrived in the Philippines last March 16, 1521, which becomes a stepping stone to spread the Christianity in the country.
