“No Vaccine, No Work” Policy Illegal, According to DOLE Secretary Bello
DOLE Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the “No Vaccine, No Work” policy of several companies are considered illegal.
On Thursday (March 4 2021), Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello described the reported “no vaccination, no work” policy as illegal and impractical. He also said that the country has no enough supply of vaccine for the proposal.
Bello said that the companies and employers could not force their employees to get inoculated by the anti-coronavirus vaccine shot. He also explained that there is no existing policy regarding the vaccination.
“Yung no vaccine, no work, illegal ‘yan, bawal yan, Kaya wala pong ganyang patakaran. Kung sino man ‘yung employer na gumagawa niyan, alam niya na mali ang ginagawa niya,” Bello said.
The Associated Labor Union said that most of the complainants reportedly came from hotel, restaurant and BPO workers. The agency said that the proposed bill is a kind of discrimination.

The Employers Confederation of the Philippines president Sergio Ortiz-Luis Jr denied the accusations that companies were imposing such a policy to the workers.
“‘Di namin malaman saan nanggaling ang balita na ‘yun…Wala. Unang-una hindi praktikal, karamihan sa mga kompanya, ‘yung maliit, ay umaasa lang sa bakuna ng gobyerno. Di mo alam kailan darating ‘yun at kung gusto magpabakuna ng mga tao talaga,” Luis said.
