Harry Roque Says Malacañang Legal Team Studying if President Duterte Can Receive Sinopharm Vaccine

The Malacañang legal team is studying if President Duterte can receive the COVID-19 vaccine shot produced by Sinopharm.

On Monday (March 1, 2021), presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said that the legal team of the palace is studying if it is safe for President Duterte can be administered with the Sinopharm vaccine.

“Pinag-aaralan po ng legal team if the President, as the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, can have Sinopharm under compassionate use,” Roque said.

The Philippine government has started the national vaccination program using China’s Sinovac vaccines. Sinopharm needs to apply for an emergency use authorization first before from the Food and Drug Administration.

However, FDA could allow the usage of vaccine without the approval of EUA if the vaccine has a compassionate use permit.

According to Roque, President Duterte wants to receive Sinopharm vaccine. He also assured the public that the president will be vaccinated in public and the people will be updated if there will be side effects.

“It will be in public, and you will be informed if there will be side effects on the President,” Roque added.
