German Radio Host Compares BTS To COVID-19, LAUV, Halsey Reacts

HALSEY – American singers Halsey, and Lauv have lambasted German radio host Matthias Matuschik for his racist comments on BTS.

BTS is a 7-member K-pop band with a musical style that has progressed from hip-hop to a wide range of genres. RM, Jimin, Jin, Suga, Jungkook, V, and J-Hope has soared to global stardom since their debut in 2013.

Seats for their shows in Los Angeles, London, and Paris in 2019 went sold out Their latest hit “Dynamite” entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 1 last August. They eventually became the first Korean act to top the US chart.

During BTS’ special MTV Unplugged session, they surprised their American fans with their rendition of Coldplay’s 2005 song “Fix You.” Jimin said the track “gave us comfort, so we wanted to prepare this cover to comfort you as well.”

 The British rock band called the K-pop group’s rendition “beautiful.” They even shared the video of their performance on Twitter.

Based on a report from The Wire, German radio host Matthias Matuschik compared BTS to the COVID-19 virus. He described them as “some crappy virus that hopefully there will be a vaccine for soon as well.”

He said “These little a**holes brag about the fact they covered ‘Fix You’ from Coldplay, this is blasphemy. For this you will be vacationing in North Korea for the next 20 years!”

The name of the radio station, Bayern 3, became trending worldwide after the host took a dislike to the group’s latest performance. ARMYs and netizens accused Matuschik of racism after he blasted the K-pop group’s cover of Coldplay’s ‘Fix You.’

American singer-songwriters Halsey and LAUV also took a stand and defend the K-pop-sensation. They lambasted Matthias Matuschik for his “racist” comment.

Taking to her IG stories, Halsey, who has collaborated with BTS on the song “Boy With Luv,” said she was “horrified” over the German hosts’ comments. She said it was a clear example of racism and xenophobia.

Meanwhile, signer LAUV posted on Twitter, “Standing by my @bts_bighit brothers and everyone continuously [affected] by racist remarks as hurtful as what we heard on Bayern 3. no one should have to endure this and together we must stand up and stop it.”
