Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Duque expressed that the increase in the cases of UK COVID-19 variant in the country is due to the boosted “biosurveillance”. According to him, only 2% of all the samples that went through genome sequencing were detected to be UK COVID-19 variant and it is considered as low percentage.

“So napalakas natin ang biosurveillance, kaya natin nakikita at natutukoy itong variants under investigation at variants of concern,” the Health Secretary expressed.
