Malacañang spoke on the possibility of implementing a stricter lockdown in the Philippines due to the UK variant of the COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic is not yet over but there is already a new threat – the UK variant of coronavirus. Over 200 countries and territories have recorded cases of COVID-19 and many nations are still dealing with the pandemic now.

One of the countries that is still dealing with the pandemic is the Philippines. Currently, it is a protocol for everyone to wear a face mask and to practice social distancing when going outdoors.

Also, face-to-face classes in schools is not yet back. It is through modules and online classes that the students get to learn amid the situation caused by the pademic.

Unfortunately, recently, the Philippines logged its first case of the UK variant of COVID-19 amid the ongoing fight against the pandemic. The patient is an overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from the United Arab Emirates.

The said patient is a 29-year-old man living in Quezon City. He is currently under quarantine now together with his girlfriend. Also, contact tracing on people he was in the same flight with is being conducted.

Undeniably, many people are curious on the possibility of a stricter lockdown over the threats of the UK variant of COVID-19. Recently, Malacañang spoke about it.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Malacañang said that it will depend on the situation in the first two weeks and as well as the healthcare capacity of the country.

“Nakadepende po iyan principally doon sa two week attack rate at saka doon po sa critical care capacity ng bansa,” presidential spokesman Harry Roque said.

Roque also expressed that there are still a lot of beds available in the Intensive Care Units (ICUs), ward beds, and beds in isolation facilities. Amid it, the government is strengthening the protocols to prevent the spread of the disease.
