Duterte Impatient With Vaccine Delays, Wants Vaccine To Arrive ASAP

Duterte Impatient As Vaccine Delays Hit Philippines Due To Lack Of EULA

DUTERTE IMPATIENT – According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, President Rodrigo Duterte is getting impatient with the vaccine delays.

Previously, Roque said that the Philippines could get the vaccine on February 15. However, Department of Health Undersecretary and spokesperson Maria Rosario Vergeire clarified that there was no set date for the vaccine’s arrival.

As such, Roque emphasized how this delay irked the President. He stressed that Duterte was starting to grow impatient.

Meanwhile, former general and current vaccine czar Carlito Galvez explained that the Philippines still needs an indemnification program. Galvez explained the lack of this program has delayed the delivery of 117,000 doses of Pfizer vaccines from the COVAX facility.

Furthermore, the Sinovac Vaccine shots from China had also been delayed as the Philippines still lacks emergency use authorization. Supposedly, 600,000 doses of the vaccine was expected to arrive on February 23. As such, Duterte wanted congress to hasten approving bills providing indemnity to COVID-19 vaccine makers.

Currently, the Philippines has the second-highest number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in Southeast Asia. After almost a year with the pandemic and strict lockdowns, the country has reported 555,163 cases and 11,673 deaths due to the virus.
