John Lloyd Cruz & Robi Domingo Reportedly Nearly Fought at Reception
JOHN LLOYD CRUZ – A seemingly harmless joke during a wedding reception allegedly sparked an awkward and tense exchange between John Lloyd Cruz and Robi Domingo.
Online buzz has emerged surrounding claims that actors John Lloyd Cruz and Robi Domingo were involved in a heated moment that nearly escalated during the wedding reception of Zanjoe Marudo and Ria Atayde on December 23. The alleged incident was openly discussed by Ogie Diaz in his YouTube vlog together with Mama Loi, Tita Jegs, Tamerlane Mopia a.k.a. Alaska Boy, and Oliver Carnay.
Ogie explained that the reception was designed to be a strictly private affair. “Pansinin ninyo (walang nakakuha ng video) walang mga cellphone lalo na sa reception,” he pointed out, revealing that all attendees were required to surrender their phones by placing them in pouch bags. This arrangement was made at the request of the newlyweds themselves. “May pouch bag, binigyan lahat para roon isilid lahat ang cellphone. Reguest ng bagong kasal na walang magbi-video kaya pansinin n’yo, walang lumabas (tungkol sa kasalang Zanjoe at Ria).”
The co-hosts agreed with Ogie, noting that the phone-free setup encouraged guests to relax and enjoy the event without distractions. “Kasi gusto ng dalawa mag-enjoy sila, magwalwal, magsuka kapag nalasing na para walang magkukuha,” Ogie remarked. Mama Loi shared a similar view, saying, “Para walang mako-conscious and you can be yourself and enjoy the company of your friends.”
Robi Domingo was among those chosen to host the reception, which was attended by close friends from the entertainment industry, including John Lloyd Cruz. Ogie recounted that while Robi was onstage, he playfully asked Ria, “how does it feel do be Mrs. Marudo?” and then turned to Zanjoe with, “how does if feel to be Mr. Atayde?” The exchange was met with laughter, and neither the bride nor the groom appeared offended, given their close friendship with the host.
The mood allegedly shifted after Robi left the stage and made his way toward the bar. According to Ogie, John Lloyd Cruz suddenly approached Robi and spoke loudly enough to catch the attention of nearby guests. “Sabi raw ni John Lloyd (kay Robi), ‘mali ‘yung sinabi mo, in-appropriate ‘yung sinabi mo okay ba ‘yung sinabi mo na tawagin mong Mr. Atayde (si Zanjoe).’”
Robi reportedly replied, “may isyu ba tayo?” which was followed by John Lloyd’s response, “Bakit ano gusto mo mangyari.”
The confrontation caused the celebration to pause as guests looked on in surprise briefly. Donny Pangilinan was said to have stepped in to prevent any escalation, while Enchong Dee, Elijah Canlas, Gary V, and the Valencianos were reportedly shocked by the scene.
Although tensions were high, the situation did not turn physical. “Base sa nakakita ay nag-aabang lang si Robi kung uundayan siya ng suntok ni John Lloyd pero hindi naman nangyari kasi napakiusapan na ibigay kina Zanjoe at Ria ‘yung moment na ‘yun,” Ogie shared.
Some speculated that alcohol may have influenced the exchange, with Oliver Carnay repeatedly asking, “Baka naman lasing na si John Lloyd?” Ogie responded, “Malamang inuman na ‘yun.”
Ultimately, Ogie said the issue was settled and chose not to pass judgment on either side. Mama Loi added that such remarks can be sensitive, particularly when it comes to surnames after marriage. She suggested that John Lloyd may have felt offended on behalf of his friend that evening.
